AUCKLAND NORTH SHORE LOCAL HISTORY
The early days of the North Shore were of Auckland residence using the ferries connecting the North Shore to Auckland for daytripper outings and weekend getaways. By the 1950's the north shore population had grow to 50 000 people, some of whome used the ferries to travel to Auckland on a daily bases to work in the city.
The completion of the Auckland North Shore harbour bridge in 1959 saw the North Shore population growth change significantly. The normal rural farm land of the North Shore quickly turned into a City in its own right.
